Seedance 2.0 vs Seedance 2.5: Differences, Price and Which to Use

Updated 2026-10-06

Short answer: Seedance 2.5 is the newer and more capable ByteDance video model – longer clips (up to 30 seconds on ByteDance's own platforms), far more reference files, local editing and timestamp control. Seedance 2.0 is older but still produces strong short clips with sound, and it costs noticeably less per second on most hosts. If you mostly make 5–10 second clips from a text prompt, start with 2.0; move to 2.5 when you need longer shots, many references or precise edits.

You can run both in the browser on GenModelHub: Seedance 2.0 and Seedance 2.5.

What changed in Seedance 2.5

Longer generations. 2.0 tops out around 15 seconds per generation. 2.5 goes up to 30 seconds, which is enough for a setup, an action and an ending in one clip, and it can extend a sequence while keeping characters and camera continuity.

Many more references. 2.0 already accepts a mix of images, video and audio (12 files). 2.5 raises that to a reported 50 combined references, which matters for product shots, recurring characters and branded scenes. Third-party interfaces often allow fewer.

Editing instead of rerolling. With 2.0 you fix a problem by regenerating. 2.5 adds local editing – change one person, product or background without restarting – and timestamp control, so you can say what happens from 0–3 seconds and what happens next.

Audio in more languages. Both generate picture and sound together. 2.5 extends dialogue and lip-sync support to more than ten languages.

Where 2.0 still makes sense

  • Cost. On GenModelHub a 5-second clip is 30 credits on 2.0 and 50 credits on 2.5. Over dozens of test renders the difference adds up.
  • Short social clips. For 5–10 second vertical or square videos from a text prompt, the extra 2.5 features often go unused.
  • Prompt exploration. Rough out ideas on 2.0, then render the final version on 2.5 if it needs more control.

A simple way to choose

  1. Write one prompt with a clear subject, one action, one camera move and an audio line.
  2. Render it at 5 seconds on Seedance 2.0.
  3. Render the same prompt, length and format on Seedance 2.5.
  4. Compare motion, faces and hands, and whether the sound fits. If 2.5 isn't clearly better for your shot, keep using 2.0.

Example prompt for the test:

A street food vendor flips noodles in a wok at night, flames rising, close-up then a slow pull back to the busy market. Audio: sizzling wok, crowd chatter, no music.

On GenModelHub

Both models run text-to-video only on our pages, at 720p with generated sound, in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, for 5 or 10 seconds. Reference uploads, local editing and 30-second clips are features of ByteDance's own platforms and APIs, not of our generator. Failed generations are refunded automatically.

FAQ

Is Seedance 2.5 better than Seedance 2.0?

It has more features – longer clips, more references, local editing and timestamp control. For short text-to-video clips the quality gap depends on the prompt, so test both with the same prompt before committing.

Is Seedance 2.0 cheaper than 2.5?

On GenModelHub, yes: 6 credits per second for 2.0 versus 10 for 2.5. Other providers set their own prices per second and resolution.

Can Seedance 2.0 make 30-second videos?

No. Seedance 2.0 generates about 4 to 15 seconds per clip on platforms that expose the full range. 30-second generations are a Seedance 2.5 feature.

Do both models generate sound?

Yes. Both produce audio together with the video, including ambient sound, music and lip-synced dialogue.

Are these the official Seedance websites?

No. GenModelHub is an independent service that runs the models through an API provider and is not affiliated with ByteDance.
