How to Use Seedance 2.0: Beginner Tutorial with Prompt Examples
Updated 2026-10-06
To use Seedance 2.0, pick a platform that runs it, write a prompt that names the subject, the action, one camera move and the sound you want, choose length and aspect ratio, then generate and review. In the browser the quickest route is GenModelHub's Seedance 2.0 generator: no ByteDance account, 5- or 10-second clips at 720p with sound. ByteDance's own apps (Dreamina/Jimeng, Doubao, CapCut for paying users in many regions) add image, video and audio references.
This tutorial assumes you have never used an AI video model before.
Step 1: Choose where to run Seedance 2.0
| Option | Good for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GenModelHub | Quick text-to-video tests in the browser | 5 or 10 s, 720p, sound always on, 6 credits per second |
| ByteDance apps (Dreamina/Jimeng, Doubao, CapCut) | Reference-driven clips | Availability and free quotas vary by region; CapCut blocks uploads with real faces or copyrighted characters |
| API (Volcano Engine or third-party hosts) | Developers and batch work | Billed per second; price depends on host and resolution |
Seedance 2.0 was released by ByteDance on February 12, 2026. Its successor, Seedance 2.5, came out in July 2026.
Step 2: Set length and format first
Decide where the video will be posted before you write the prompt:
- 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- 16:9 for YouTube and websites.
- 1:1 for feeds and ads.
Start with 5 seconds. Short clips are cheaper (30 credits on GenModelHub) and fail less often. Move to 10 seconds once the prompt works.
Step 3: Write your first prompt
Use this order – it matches how video models read prompts:
- Subject – who or what is on screen.
- Action – what happens, in order.
- Setting and light – where and when.
- Camera – one move: "slow dolly in", "static wide shot", "handheld follow".
- Audio – Seedance 2.0 generates sound with the picture, so say what should be heard.
Beginner example:
A golden retriever runs through shallow waves on a beach at sunset, spraying water. Low tracking shot following the dog from the side. Warm backlight. Audio: waves, splashing, distant gulls, no music.
Step 4: Generate and review
Watch the clip twice: once for the picture (faces, hands, objects that change shape, the camera move) and once for the sound (does it match the action, is dialogue in sync). Download clips you like right away.
Step 5: Improve one thing at a time
When something is off, change only one part of the prompt and regenerate, so you know what helped:
- Wrong motion – describe the movement more concretely: "the curtain moves slowly from left to right" instead of "dynamic".
- Broken hands or faces – fewer people, a wider shot, simpler action.
- Camera does too much – name exactly one move.
- Unwanted music – add "no music" to the audio line.
- Garbled on-screen text – leave text out and add it later in an editor.
Multi-shot clips and dialogue
Seedance 2.0 can put several shots with cuts into one generation. Describe them in order:
Shot 1: close-up of a chef's hands slicing a lemon. Shot 2: wide shot of the busy restaurant kitchen. Shot 3: the chef smiles at the camera and says "Order up!" Audio: kitchen clatter, sizzling pans.
Keep dialogue to one or two short lines in quotes; long speeches lip-sync less reliably.
Using references (ByteDance platforms)
On ByteDance's own products a single request can include text plus up to 9 images, 3 video clips and 3 audio clips. Give each file one job – a character's look, a product, a location or a motion example – and refer to it in the prompt. Make sure you have the rights to everything you upload. GenModelHub's Seedance 2.0 page is text-to-video only.
Costs to expect
On GenModelHub: 30 credits for 5 seconds, 60 for 10 seconds; failed generations are refunded. Elsewhere, ByteDance apps have their own quotas and paid tiers, and APIs bill per second.
